The tensioning roller (1) has a traction mechanism connected with a drive shaft and an output shaft, for example, a drive belt. The tensioning roller has a radial outer guide pulley (6). An antifriction bearing (7) is introduced in central hub of tensioning roller. The radial outer guide pulley has a bearing surface (4) abutting and gripping the traction mechanism. A sensor system has a sensor connected with the tensioning roller or an impulse device (11) formed on it and aligned on the impulse device.
