<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve corrosion durability of carrier particles for carrying catalyst. <P>SOLUTION: Pt-carrying carbon particles carrying catalyst (platinum: Pt) in a proper catalyst carrying technique such as a colloid method are treated with aldehyde or acid so as to introduce hydroxyl groups to the surface of the Pt-carrying carbon particles. Then 1,1 diphenyl-4 pentenylbenzene containing benzene groups as hydrophobic functional groups are chemically coupled with carbon particle sites after introduction of hydroxyl groups through radical polymerization reaction. While 1,1 diphenyl-4 pentenylbenzene is bulky, benzene groups as the hydrophobic functional groups are put on the surface of the Pt-carrying carbon particles which are not carrying fine particles of catalyst. Water is thus repelled from the Pt-carrying carbon particles by means of the benzene groups. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2009,JPO&INPIT |
