PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a condensing apparatus having improved heat transfer efficiency by preventing short pass in a condensing chamber with heat transfer tubes disposed therein. SOLUTION: The condensing apparatus is configured by horizontally arranging a lot of heat transfer tubes 5 in the condensing chamber 4 provided with a flow-in port F for steam at the upper part of a partition wall 2 in a casing 1, and with a gas discharging cylindrical member 6 vertically inserted through an upper wall part 1b at its central position and for discharging air which is non-condensable gas, wherein fluid resistance buffering zones S with no heat transfer tubes disposed are provided on both sides of the cylindrical member 6 in the condensing chamber 4 and at vertical positions, a lower end of the cylindrical member 6 is positioned near the middle part in the vertical direction in the condensing chamber 4, baffle plates 9 imparting resistance to the steam flow are provided on the outer and inner faces of the cylindrical member 6, and a straightening expanded member 10 for straightening the steam flow is provided at a lower end of the cylindrical member 6.
