PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a plate rolling mill which has relatively low equipment-cost structure, in which there is no time lag in a large-diameter work rolls, which is excellent in rough shape controllability even in thick plates and with which a product having a good shape without gloss irregularity can be manufactured at a low cost. SOLUTION: This plate rolling mill has a roll assembly in which work rolls and back up rolls or work rolls, intermediate rolls and back up rolls are perpendicularly arranged. At least one of upper and lower back up rolls is a divided back up roll which is divided into three or more divisions in series in the axial direction and a plurality of divided back up roll units composed of a screw-down mechanism, a load detector and a screw-down location detector are provided in an inner housing on each divided back up roll respectively and independently.
