PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a polyorganosiloxane used for forming a liquid crystal alignment film, having superior coatability and capable of giving liquid crystal alignment capability through irradiation with polarized or non-polarized radioactive rays, without having to conduct rubbing processings. SOLUTION: The polyorganosiloxane has a repeating unit represented by the general formula (1) and has a weight average molecular weight of 1,000-100,000: wherein Z represents a photosensitive group capable of causing a crosslinking reaction or an isomerization reaction, when it is irradiated with a light having a wavelength of 200-400 nm; and X represents a hydroxy group, a 1-20C alkyl group, a 6-20C aryl group or a 1-20C alkoxyl group, or may be crosslinked together with X of other repeating unit via -O-.
