<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a light emitting device which has a high color rendering property and high light emitting intensity by using a phosphor that is efficiently excited by an ultraviolet ray or short-wavelength visible light to emit light. <P>SOLUTION: The light emitting device includes: a light emitting element that emits the ultraviolet ray or the short-wavelength visible light; and the phosphor that is excited by the ultraviolet ray or the short-wavelength visible light to emit visible light. The phosphor has a composition represented by a general formula M<SP>1</SP>O<SB>2</SB>_aM<SP>2</SP>O_bM<SP>3</SP>X<SB>2</SB>:M<SP>4</SP>. (Here, M<SP>1</SP>is at least one element selected from a group composed of Si, Ge, Ti, Zr, and Sn; M<SP>2</SP>is at least one element selected from a group composed of Mg, Ca, Sr, Ba, and Zn; M<SP>3</SP>is at least one element selected from a group composed of Mg, Ca, Sr, Ba, and Zn; X is at least one halogen element; M<SP>4</SP>is at least one rare-earth element essentially including Eu<SP>2+</SP>; a is in a range of 0.1 to 1.3; and b is in a range of 0.1 to 0.25). <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2009,JPO&INPIT |
