<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a ballpoint pen refill which lets a spring provided as the direct flow countermeasure does not impede antibackflowing function vehicle controlling the tip-wise movement of an antibackflowing ball. <P>SOLUTION: The ballpoint pen refill 10 is composed of an ink housing tube 15, a ballpoint pen tip 30 and a joint 20 connecting therewith. A spring 50 for energizing a writing ball 40 tip-wise is inserted in he back hole 38 of the ballpoint pen tip 30 and is composed of the larger diametral spring part 51 of a coiled spring having an outer diameter smaller than the inner diameter of the back hole 38, an energizing part 53 for abuttingly energizing the rear end of the writing ball 40 by extending in a rod from the tip of the larger diametral spring part 51 tip-wise and a smaller diametral spring part 52 comprising a coiled spring connecting with the rear end of the larger diametral spring part 51 and reaching within the valve chamber 26 of the joint 20 and, at the same time, having an outer diameter smaller than the outer diameter of the larger diametral spring part 51.
