The present invention claims a random access method for cellular radio communication system. The upper layers trigger the physical layer to transmit a random access preamble, and the physical layer receives the random access response message. When the receiving time window is reached, the physical layer stops the receiving of the random access response message. If the physical layer receives the direction of the upper layers to stop the receiving of the random access response message before the receiving time window reached, the physical layer stops the receiving of the random access response message. At the present invention, the physical layer starts or stops the receiving of a random access response message according to the receiving time window during the random access process, and the present invention improves the efficiency of protocol process, reduces the complexity of physical layer process, and decreases signal burden of parameters and messages passing between the physical layer and the upper layers.
