The invention describes a corrugator for producing pipes with a transversely profiled pipe wall having moulding jaws (101 to 110) which are moved along at least two circulatory paths. The circulatory paths are designed in such a way that they each have a work section (135) and a recirculation section. The circulatory paths guide the moulding jaws (101 to 110) in their work section (135) to form a common moulding channel. In the recirculation sections, the moulding jaws (101 to 110) are in each case recirculated under the control of a recirculation device. It is essential that at least two moulding jaws arranged in succession in a circulatory path have different lengths. In order to control the drive of the moulding jaws, a detection device (141, 142) is provided for detecting an actual state of the moulding jaws (101 to 110) guided in the circulatory paths. The control is carried out by means of an electronic control device.
