A method and its associated device for measuring at least one physical dimension of a target. The method comprises projecting a planar light beam onto the target to produce a reflected light line on the target, acquiring a digital image of the reflected light line on the target, interpolating the reflected light line from the acquired digital image, curve fitting at least part of the interpolated reflected light line to a mathematical model of the target in order to define parameters of the mathematical model, extrapolating the at least one physical dimension of the target from the parameters of the mathematical model and providing the at least one physical dimension of the target.
