PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical compensation film excellent in optical characteristics such as: large refractive index in a thickness direction of a film; large in-plane retardation; and small wavelength dependency, and also excellent in mechanical characteristics such as ductility. SOLUTION: The optical compensation film consists of a fumarate ester-based resin and a plasticizer. Assuming that the refractive index within a film plane in a fast axis direction is nx; the refractive index within the film plane perpendicular to the fast axis direction is ny; and the refractive index outside the film plane in a perpendicular direction is nz, the relation nx≤ny<nz is satisfied. Furthermore, the ratio (R450/R550) in the retardation measured by the wavelength of 450 nm and the retardation measured by the wavelength of 550 nm is≤1.1. COPYRIGHT: (C)2009,JPO&INPIT |
