PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a battery which can protect a battery case from a high temperature gas generated at the time of battery abnormality while securing excellently insertion of an electrode unit into the battery case. SOLUTION: The battery 100 is provided with a battery container 40, a wound electrode unit 70 housed in the battery container through an opening part 42 of the battery container, electrode terminals 20A, 20B jointed to end parts 72A, 72B in winding axis direction of the wound electrode unit, and a lid 44 to close the opening part of the battery container. Shield plates 10A, 10B to separate the wound electrode unit and the inner wall of the battery container are arranged between the end faces 73A, 73B in winding axis direction of the wound electrode unit and the inner wall of the battery container opposed to the end faces.
