Disclosed herein is an image processing apparatus capable of performing processes of recording and playing image data at a plurality of frame rates. The image processing apparatus includes a storage section, and a control section configured to, when performing the process of recording the image data at each of the frame rates, set information concerning a recording rate corresponding to the frame rate in a data area, in accordance with a predetermined file format, that is paired with stream data to be recorded, and store the information in the storage section.
