Conjugates for use in analytical techniques for detection of an analyte in an analyte sample are described. The conjugates comprise a Raman-active chromophore covalently coupled to a binding moiety, wherein the binding moiety is: (i) a metal surface binding peptide or peptide analogue; (ii) a metal surface binding nucleic acid or nucleic acid analogue; (iii) an aptamer; or (iv) a binding partner for an analyte capture reagent. Conjugates of the invention may be used in Raman spectroscopy, especially surface enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS) or surface enhanced resonance Raman spectroscopy (SERRS). |
