An apparatus and a method for a frame cache which efficiently processes a plurality of cores are provided to improve the performance of a multimedia application due to caching and prefetching a 2D image frame stored in a main storing part on a multiprocessors SoC(System On a Chip). An apparatus for a frame cache receives information about a cached frame from a main storing part(S1210). If the information about the frame is received, the initial value of a first mode is set up by using the received information(S1220). The first mode sets up the value corresponding to Geometry standard value of the frame as the standard value of the first mode. The apparatus for the frame cache performs the caching operation of the frame from the main storing part by using the first mode(S1230).
