PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To photograph a natural video image that is easy to look at when making an imaging device automatically track an object.

SOLUTION: A distribution of loudness of all circumferences 360° is calculated and defined as an evaluation value. Weighting is performed to evaluation values of prescribed range with the currently selected direction as a center in a prescribed manner, and the evaluation values of the prescribed range are emphasized. The prescribed range with the currently selected direction as a center detects the maximum value of the emphasized evaluation values, and a direction in which the maximum value is detected is selected. Direction control is performed so as to face the selected direction. Consequently, the direction of an object is tracked when the object moves, or the like while preferentially selecting the current direction and its neighborhood. When sound occurs in a direction other than the prescribed range, natural direction control can be achieved so as to prevent direction control from being performed in the direction.
