<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a steering assist device capable of continuously generating torque to assist steering of a steering wheel, even if an electric power steering device fails, without a complicated constitution. <P>SOLUTION: This steering assist device 1 is constituted of a transmission ratio variable steering device 2 and the electric power steering device 3. The transmission ratio variable steering device 2 generates the torque to assist the steering of the steering wheel 4 when the electric power steering device 3 fails.
