<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an exhaust gas substance removal device having a small configuration and treating particulates in exhaust gas containing oxygen exhausted from a thermal engine such as a reciprocating engine, a rotary engine, a jet engine or a gas turbine at a low temperature with a high efficiency and at a low cost in a dry method which does not use ammonia or urea even if no catalyst is used and of removing NOx, soot, and carbon hydride in the exhaust gas simultaneously. <P>SOLUTION: The device comprises: a cavity 7 into which the exhaust gas is introduced through an exhaust gas passage; a particulate collecting filter 2 formed of a heat-resistant material to which a microwave absorber material 4 is added and stored inside the cavity 7; a pulse electromagnetic radiation supply source 9 for outputting an electromagnetic wave having a frequency in the GHz band; and a microwave antenna 8 supplied with an electromagnetic wave from the pulse electromagnetic radiation supply source 9 and adapted for radiating a microwave into the cavity 7.
