<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal display device having a color filter with an improved aperture ratio. <P>SOLUTION: The liquid crystal display device has a light-shielding film (black matrix) BM and a plurality of sub-pixels laid in a matrix, characterized in that: each sub-pixel comprises a first electrode on a first substrate, a second electrode having a plurality of linear portions formed in an upper layer of the first electrode, and a color filter formed on a counter substrate; the sub-pixels include two adjoining sub-pixels adjoining along the direction of a display line and in the same color; the black matrix is formed on the second substrate to cover pixel boundaries excluding boundaries in contact with the adjoining sub-pixels; the second electrodes of the respective adjoining sub-pixels are formed as independent from each other; the second electrode of at least one of the adjoining sub-pixels is extended over the pixel boundary with the other adjoining sub-pixel and disposed in the other adjoining sub-pixel. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2009,JPO&INPIT |
