PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an auxiary treatment method for imparting the corrosion resistance of a zirconium coating film stably when performing a zirconium conversion coating treatment as the coating substrate treatment of a ferrous metal. SOLUTION: The chemical conversion treatment method for a metal is characterized in that a ferrous metal is subjected to chemical conversion treatment with an aqueous solution comprising zirconium, is water-washed, and is further treated with a nitrite aqueous solution.
