PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a seat reclining device which urges a seat back to the frontward reclining direction when reclining backward with one coiled spring and breaks the seat back when reclining frontward. SOLUTION: A seat reclining device 1 is provided with a base member 2 wherein either a seat cushion or a seat back is combined, an arm member 3 and a spring member 4 where an arm member 3 is placed being capable of biasing in a frontward reclining direction. Engaging pieces 8 and 9 are provided at the base member 2 and an engaging projection 10 is provided at the arm member 3. Both of the end parts of the spring member 4 are engaged with the engaging pieces 8 and 9 when the seat back is at the predetermined angle position. When the seat back reclines frontward, one end of the spring member 4 is engaged with the front end part of the engaging projection 10 and also the other end of the spring member 4 is engaged with the rear end part of the engaging piece 9, and when the seat back reclines backward, the other end of the spring member 4 is engaged with the front end part of the engaging piece 8 and one end of the spring member 4 is engaged with the engaging projection 10 of the arm member 3.
