The device (1) has a foil (2) assigning emitter (3) with an emitter coil arranged in a glass plunger for emitting radiant heat. The emitter is laterally encapsulated with a housing (4) on the averted side of the foil. A unit is provided for cooling the glass of the glass plunger at the emitter ends. The inner surface of the housing (4) is formed by polished aluminum. A reflector (10) consists of ceramic, quartz glass, glass ceramic or stainless steel. An independent claim is included for a method for operating the device for heating the foil.
