The scanner (1) has a projector (2) for projecting a pattern e.g. graphical pattern, on an object. A camera is provided with recording optics and an image sensor e.g. charge-coupled device (CCD) sensor (18) and complementary metal oxide image sensor (CMOS). Image optics (9, 10) are arranged at distance to each other, where distance of the optics and directions of optical axes (11, 12) are selected such that the optics and the axes are oriented to a common area of a tooth. A marker (27) e.g. infrared marker, is provided for an infrared tracking system. A light source (6) e.g. LED is provided.
