A combing machine having a supply device, a combing device for combing out fibre material and at least one device for forming a combed sliver, also has for apparatus monitoring the noil percentage. The apparatus comprises at least one measuring device 28 for the quantity of supplied fibre material and at least one measuring device for the quantity of combed fibre material. The or each measuring device comprises a feeler element or a contactless sensor. The measuring device for supplied material may comprise detecting the change in weight, the diameter and the speed of a lap roll. The measuring device may be a feeler (40, figure 4) in the form of a delivery roller or an element in a sliver funnel. Alternatively the measuring device may be a microwave device. The combing machine may be of the rectilinear or rotor type and may have a plurality of combing heads and the noil percentage may be determined at each head. The measured noil percentage may be used to change process or apparatus settings. |
