A printer is provided to use a short arc type super high pressure mercury lamp as a light source of an inkjet printer such that lights of wavelengths of shorter than 300nm are hardly emitted. A printer(1) jets optically cured ink from a recording head to a recording medium and irradiates light from light illuminators(6,7) to the ink to cure the ink and record an image. Each light illuminator includes a short arc type discharge lamp(11) and a reflector(12). The discharge lamp is constructed in such a manner that a pair of electrodes are arranged opposite to each other in a discharge container. The reflector surrounds the discharge lamp and reflects light from the discharge lamp. The discharge lamp is a super high pressure mercury lamp.
