A composition for reducing body fat content and the treatment of obesity and related disorders, comprises peptides obtained by random enzymatic or chemical hydrolysis of the protein fraction of cells (preferably brown adipocytes), or artificially synthesised peptides that are homologous to characteristic proteins of these cells. The compositions preferably contain peptides of with a molecular weight of 10 kDa or less, derived from or homologous to proteins from brown adipocytes. These include mitochondrial brown fat uncoupling proteins 1, 2 or 3 (UCP-1, UCP-2 or UCP-3), beta-3 adrenergic receptor, hormone sensitive lipase, retinoic acid receptors alpha, beta, gamma-1 gamma-2, RXR-alpha, RXR-beta, or RXR-gamma, leptin or its receptor, thyroid hormone receptor alpha, beta-1 or beta-2 or iodothyronine deiodinase type I or type II. The compositions may be used for therapeutic or cosmetic methods of reducing fat content and treatment of obesity. |
