The photonic crystal includes a two waveguide zones which offers arrays of designs (4) arranged in a regular patterns. The two patterns are different, and between them there is a transition zone, where the design elements change in size in order to achieve a transition between one mode and another. The photonic crystal has a propagation structure for guided propagation of photons. The structure includes a first waveguide zone which offers a first array of designs (4) arranged in a regular pattern. A second waveguide zone has a second array of these designs, also arranged in a regular pattern. Between the two zones there is an extended transition zone (D). In the transition zone, the designs (t1, t2) which are aligned with one of the waveguide zone arrays progressively reduce in size. The designs in both zones provide a periodic pattern, and may be arranged in a triangular grid whose mesh size is equal to 450nm. The designs themselves may be holes in the structure, with a diameter of 300nm.
|
