The device for igniting a safety fuse cord (A3), comprises a powder core with electrically conductive powder portions, initial electrodes (A2), a gripping lever (A1) to impale the cord on the electrodes, a condenser that is unloadable after loading over the electrodes, a light (A8) to indicate a control of the correct position of the cord on the electrodes over a measurement of resistance, rechargers (A6, A7), and a further light to indicate the attainment of the ignition voltage and/or fire readiness. The electrodes project into the core. The condenser is loaded during depressing rechargers. An independent claim is included for a method for igniting a safety fuse cord.
