A hologram recording/reproducing apparatus and a light source device are provided to control the light quantity of beam which is divided by the polarization beam splitter with good precision by varying the polarization angle or polarization state of beam determined by the polarization control device according to the quantity of light detected from the light receiving element. A hologram recording/reproducing apparatus comprises an external-cavity type light source(10), a polarization control device varying the polarization angle of beam emitted from the light source, a polarization beam splitter varying the ratio between the light quantities of two beam, a light receiving element which light receives one of the two beam which are obtained by dividing the beam in two directions, a spatial light modulator(19) which receives the other beam and generates signal beam, reference beam and reproduction beam, and a controller(110) performing the control action of varying the polarization angle or polarization state of beam decided by the polarization control device.
