A data input/output apparatus and a method in a portable terminal for performing a video call while watching video data on the screen of the external device are provided to watch received video data on the screen by outputting image data and audio data to the external device. User image data and audio data of a portable terminal(100) are transmitted to the portable terminal on the other party. Video data received from the portable terminal on the other party and the conversion key for outputting audio data to the external device are inputted. A controller outputs received video data through the wire/wireless telecommunication to the external device. Audio data are inputted to the portable terminal through the equipped microphone from a user. Audio data inputted from a user are transmitted to the portable terminal on the other party.
