An image forming apparatus, a cartridge, and an image forming method are provided to prevent abrasion of the apparatus and deterioration of an image, caused by usage of a fraudulent cartridge, by inducing usage of an authentic cartridge. An image forming unit(10) forms an image by receiving an image forming agent from a cartridge including a state indication element. A state setup unit(20) disconnects the state indication element. A controller(30) measures the amount of the image forming agent consumed for the image forming by recognizing identification information of the cartridge. The controller controls the state setup unit so as to disconnect the state indication element of the cartridge if the usage amount of the image forming agent is more than a preset value. |
