An in-vehicle device capable of preventing the occurrence of a situation where an IC card is not set in the device when the vehicle passes a tollbooth of a toll road etc. The in-vehicle device is mounted in the vehicle (1) and communicates information on a toll, between itself and a toll communication device placed at a tollbooth (2) of a toll area. The in-vehicle device has an IC card insertion section where an IC card is inserted. When it is detected that the vehicle has entered a confirmation zone (B) provided before the toll communication device, the in-vehicle device determines whether the IC card is inserted in the IC card insertion section, and when not inserted, the in-vehicle device advises the fact.
