PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an asbestos detection method capable of simply and rapidly detecting asbestos from a building material on the pulling-down site of a building, and to provide an asbestos detecting kit. SOLUTION: The surface of the building material is pretreated by coating the surface of the building material with a blocking liquid that blocks the surface of the building material, and the treated surface of the building material is coated with a liquid which contains fused protein of asbestos bonding protein, bonded to asbestos and reporter protein functioning as a detection index of asbestos to bond the fused protein to asbestos on the surface of the building material; and after the surface of the building material is washed, asbestos is detected from the surface of the building material.
