PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method capable of carburizing circumferential parts of a plurality of machine components simply in the gross without requiring specified equipment. SOLUTION: In the method of hardening the surface of a circumferential part 1A with respect to a machine component which has lateral edge surfaces 3 perpendicular to the axial line 2 and parallel to one another, and a circumferential part 1A formed around the axial part 2, the plurality of machine components 1 are arranged so that the lateral edge surfaces 3 by themselves confront each other, all of the plurality of machine components 1 are connected by connection members 8, 9 accompanied by a compression force in the axial direction to form a connection body 10, the connection body 10 is disposed in a heat-treatment atmosphere of carburization or carbonitriding and is taken out to the outside of the heat treatment atmosphere after heat treatment and, thereafter, the connection members 8, 9 are detached.
