A disc type inflator having high gas cooling and mist removal performances and reduced in weight and in size in the radial direction of the inflator. An inflator case (40) has an upper case (36) placed on the occupant side and a lower case (38) provided on the side opposite the occupant. A tubular holding member (60) having a separation wall (64) at the bottom of the holding member is placed in the inflator case (40). A gas flow path (74) is formed around the holding member (60), and communication holes (80) communicating with the gas flow path (74) are formed in the separation wall (64). Further, a gas ejection hole (76) is formed in a peripheral wall section (36B) of the upper case (36), and the gas ejection hole (76) is located at a position away by a distance d to the occupant side from the intermediate position P of a combustion chamber (68). Accordingly, the length (L1) of a flow path from the start point of the flow path to the gas ejection hole (76) is long enough to enable highly effective heat exchange of high temperature gas and removal of mist (82). Conventionally used filter can be eliminated.
