METHOD FOR PRODUCING ASTAXANTHIN

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for efficiently producing astaxanthin with a plant.

SOLUTION: Provided are a gene comprising a base sequence obtained by converting the base sequence of an astaxanthin-biosynthesizing gene crtZ originated from a marine bacterium belonging to a genus Brevundimonas according to a specific rule, and/or a plant type astaxanthin-biosynthesizing gene originated from the gene-identical bacterium and comprising a base sequence obtained by converting the base sequence of an astaxanthin-biosynthesizing gene crtW according to a specific rule. A plant transformed with one of the genes can efficiently produce the astaxanthin.
