PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a communication device capable of determining a signal system for transmitting a sound signal at a desired timing, using a simple method. SOLUTION: A telephone 1 has: a signal generation instructing section 41 for generating a tone signal and outputting it to an exchanger and a DTMF signal generating section 15; a signal generation instructing section 41 for generating a pulse signal and outputting it to the exchanger and a pulse signal generating section 16; and a communication result determining section 42 for determining whether connection to the exchanger is performed via a repeater for converting an analog signal into a digital signal, based on the detection state of a dial tone from the exchanger, after the output of the tone signal and the detection state of the dial tone from the exchanger, after the output of the pulse signal.
