Disclosed is a pneumatic tire having a belt (5) which has a layer comprising a steel cord coated with a coating rubber. As the coating rubber for coating the steel cord, a rubbery composition is used, which comprises 100 parts by mass of a rubbery component, 3.5 to 7.0 parts by mass of sulfur, 0.1 to 5.0 parts by mass of bis(3-hydroxyphenyl) adpiate ester, 0.05 to 1.5 parts by mass of a cobalt salt of an organic acid and 0.5 to 5.0 parts by mass of hexamethoxymethylmelamine, and further comprises a phenolic resin in an amount of 0.5 to 2.5 times the mass of hexamethoxymethylmelamine. The pneumatic tire has high durability and stabilized adhesion between the steel cord and the coating rubber.
