It is possible to provide a waveform equalizer, a control method, a reception device, and its control method which can obtain a high reception characteristic. In a filter (82), an inputted DT1 is delayed by registers (911 to 915) and outputs of the registers are multiplied by respective filter coefficients (C20 to C25) by multipliers (920 to 925), and adders (931 to 935) add outputs of the multipliers so as to obtain DT2. A selector (81) outputs a timing signal at each symbol cycle of DT1 and drives the filter (82) as a symbol rate equalizer or outputs a timing signal at a half of the symbol cycle and operates the filter (82) as a fraction interval equalizer. The present invention can be applied to a waveform equalizer which performs waveform equalization of an input signal.
