A switching mod power supply apparatus and a power supply method thereof are provided to reduce power loss and heat generation by producing DC power supply in a pulse type. A transform unit(10) converts an input power source into an output power of a fixed voltage. A light-emitting unit(30) radiates in case that the voltage of the output power is over a predetermined value. A photo receiving unit(40) receives light from the light-emitting unit and informs the voltage of the output power. A switching controller(50) switches an operation of the transform unit according to the voltage of the output power of the photo receiving unit. A connection release unit(60) releases the power source when the voltage of the power source applied to the photo receiving unit is over the fixed value.
