<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a peripheral monitoring sensor for surely sensing the relative position, relative velocity, and shape of an object. <P>SOLUTION: A peripheral monitoring sensor 1 includes a millimeter-wave radar 2, an image sensor 3, and a signal processing section 4. The peripheral monitoring sensor 1 performs segmentation with respect to data detected by each of the sensors, and as for an object (target) that exists in a predetermined area, prepares information related to the object in accordance with information acquired by both of the sensors. The millimeter-wave radar is good at measuring the distance and velocity of a long-distance object, and the image sensor is good at measuring the width and angle of an object. This makes it possible to obtain accurate information by combining data which the sensors are good at obtaining. The signal processing section 4 determines the surface of an object by combining information on the object as detected by the image sensor with the location of the object as detected by the millimeter-wave radar. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2009,JPO&INPIT</p> |
