PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve detection accuracy of a magnetostrictive torque sensor. SOLUTION: A plurality of first detection coils L1 for detecting magnetic permeability in a first direction in a shaft surface and a plurality of second detection coils L2 for detecting magnetic permeability in a second direction in the shaft surface are arranged along the same circumference of a rotating shaft S. In the plurality of the first detection coils L1 and the second detection coils L2, the heights of cores L1a and L2a are made different from each other in such a way that the cores L1a and L2a may intersect with each other in a plan view, and the height relation between the core L1a of a first detection coil L1 and the core L2a of a second detection coil L2 is made to alternately change in a circumferential direction.
