Polyethylene is stabilized with at least one alkyl phenyl salicylate of formula wherein R is a C8 to C15 alkyl group. The preferred stabilizers are the dodecyl, nonyl, pentadecyl and the various octyl phenyl salicylates. The products find application as sheet, rod, tube, pipe, filaments, film and coatings on paper, wire, metal foil, glass fibre and synthetic or natural textiles.
