A stepper motor based on the reluctance principle has a primary part and a secondary part which is capable of moving in relation thereto. The primary part has at least three pole assemblies, which are offset with respect to one another in the movement direction of the relative movement and each have a soft-magnetic C-core with an air gap and an electrical winding for producing a magnetic flux which passes through the C-core and the air gap transversely with respect to the relative movement. The pole assemblies are arranged on a holder such that they are magnetically insulated from one another. The secondary part has a plurality of soft-magnetic core parts, which are offset with respect to one another in the movement direction of the relative movement and are capable of moving into and out of the air gaps.
