<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electric power steering system capable of restraining cost and continuously aiding steering of a steering wheel even when an electric power source is abnormal or electric power source wiring is broken. <P>SOLUTION: This electric power steering system 1 is furnished with batteries 2, 3, a motor 6, a battery connecting part 80 and a motor driving part 81. The battery connecting part 80 serially connects the batteries 2, 3 to each other and connects them to the motor driving part 81 when it is determined that the batteries 2, 3 are both normal. The normal battery is connected to the motor driving part 81 when either one of the batteries 2, 3 is determined to be abnormal. Consequently, it is possible to drive the motor 6 even though voltage is lowered. Accordingly, it is possible to continuously assist the steering of the steering wheel even when the battery is abnormal or the battery wiring is broken. Additionally, it is not necessary to separately prepare the same one in reserve to use the normal battery out of the electric power sources of the batteries 2, 3 serially connected to each other.
