<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an adhesive tape which is designed as simply as possible and, consequently, can be manufactured at an advantageous cost and made to have high tensile strength in the longitudinal direction (in the machine direction (md)) thereof and very high tear strength in the lateral direction (in the cross direction (cd)) thereof simultaneously. <P>SOLUTION: The adhesive tape has a backing material to at least one surface of which an adhesive, in particular, a pressure-sensitive adhesive is applied. The backing material is composed of at least one film having at least one score extending in the longitudinal direction of the adhesive tape.
