PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a structure for transferring content recorded in an existing recording and reproducing device and parameter data determined for specifying device operating environment to a new recording and reproducing device when replacing the existing device with the new one or buying a new one in addition to the existing one. SOLUTION: The device not only records and reproduces the content but also transmits and receives the data to and from at least one information device. At least one parameter data for specifying the operating environment is set in the information device having a function for transmitting the parameter data upon request. The device includes a network control portion for transmitting and receiving the data between information devices, a system control portion for requesting transmission of at least one parameter data set in the information device at the initial setting, and a recording medium for storing the data which are transmitted from the information device and received by the network control portion.
