PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal display device, wherein dynamic characteristics are improved by suppressing supply of light of a light source to an image display area where image data is not displayed. SOLUTION: The liquid crystal display device which includes a display panel and a back light for displaying video and performs scan control over the back light, includes a video analysis means of analyzing an externally input video signal and correcting the video signal, a panel control means of sending corrected video signal data from the video analysis means to the display panel to control the display panel, and a back light control means of making luminance constant without varying an insertion rate of black and reducing the luminance of a non-illumination part more while taking the profile of a back light source into consideration according to information needed for the back light control input from the video analysis means.
