PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a cleaning mechanism for effectively removing a residual toner image remaining on the surface of a transfer member, and to provide an image forming apparatus equipped therewith. SOLUTION: The cleaning mechanism 50 which cleans the surface of a secondary transfer roller 29 transferring a toner image to a recording medium is equipped with a cleaning blade 51a coming into contact with the surface of the secondary transfer roller 29 and removing toner agent adhering to the surface, and a grinding member 52a grinding at least a part of the area cleaned by the cleaning blade 51a.
