#CMT# #/CMT# The sensor has a housing (11) and a sensor element (12) that is mounted in the housing. The element includes an end section (121) protruding from the housing at a side of a measuring gas at measuring gas-sided end of the housing. A protective pipe (14) covers the end section, and is fixed at the housing end. A flange (21) includes a sealing surface for gas-tightly fixing the sensor in a connector (27) that enables inflow of the gas. The flange is formed at the pipe as a single piece, and the pipe is shrunk on the housing with an end section (143) of the pipe staying behind the flange. #CMT#USE : #/CMT# Gas sensor for determining physical characteristics such as concentration of gas component e.g. oxygen and nitrogen oxide, and temperature, of a measuring gas e.g. exhaust gas, in an internal combustion engine. #CMT#ADVANTAGE : #/CMT# The flange is formed at the protective pipe as a single piece, and the pipe is shrunk on the sensor housing with the end section of the pipe staying behind the flange, thus reducing manufacturing cost of the gas sensor while ensuring a gas-tight connection between the protective pipe and the sensor housing and gas-tight lining of the gas sensor, and realizing a durable, mechanically firm and gas-tight seating of the protective pipe on the sensor housing. The connection between the protective pipe and the sensor housing avoids material damage by structural changes and degradation of corrosion characteristics by alloy formation. High investment costs for temporarily welding the protective pipe at the sensor housing are eliminated for shrinking the pipe.
